Subtle changes to the bill have allowed the lure to set itself apart from the crowd and have enabled Rapala to gain yet more distance ahead of the pack. The Scatter Rap, by Rapala, is yet another bait from a great company that shows just how much attention to detail can pay off. The Scatter Rap illusion of a spooked baitfish fleeing attack is heightened with the new incarnation of the Glass Shad. You get all this for an affordable price tag of $8.99, as well. They measure in at 2 ¾ inches, with a weight of ¼ ounce, which allows them to reach some pretty impressive casting distances with the right line and rod setup. Also, the bait is available in a dozen different color patterns, including favorites like Helsinki shad, yellow perch, silver, and bluegill. The Scatter Rap is armed with a pair of black nickel treble hooks that latch on and don’t let go when a fish strikes. This curved bill allows the Scatter Rap to dive straight to the strike zone and gives it an aggressive, evasive, erratic sweeping action that mimics baitfish perfectly. This is where the Scatter Rap gets its moniker, and what causes it to display such a different action than what fish-and anglers-are used to. Offered in a host of classic colors, as well as, some of Ike’s Custom Colors, the Rapala Scatter Rap is another example of Rapala’s continuing innovation. However, upon closer inspection, you’ll notice something just a little different: the bill is curved, much like a shoe horn. Built using the classic Rapala crankbait body profile, the Rapala Scatter Rap features a rugged, non-ratting, balsa wood construction, and two razor sharp VMC black nickel hooks. Well, Rapala is one such company that seems to answer this question, time and time again, with a simple answer: “This.” Just when it seemed like there was nothing else Rapala could do to raise the bar, the legendary company hits the fishing community with a new series of lures, one of which is the subject of today’s Tackle Review. I just bought 12 more for my trip next year.I’m sure we’re all familiar with the rhetorical phrase, “What’ll they come up with next?” Sometimes it’s spoken with sarcasm, while other times it’s an honest question, referring to the sheer ingenuity and craftsmanship of a company’s products. I had a couple go-to lures for salmon and they have been put aside because this lure hands down out performs them. The hooks are strong and easily handled 20-30 pound kings. The erratic scatter action during the day caused reaction strikes and hungry engulf it bites. The rattling made pre-dawn and after dark fishing great. It suspends and can get down where the fish are. Very long casting even against the wind and the action drives the King Salmon crazy. I wasnt sure about this lure when it arrived but from the first cast I was sold. Observing it escape while darting side-to-side is one thing but feeling a shad bait vibrate the rod tip makes it truly unique. Thank you Rapala for another amazing lure. The Scatter Rap Shad has a balsa body with scatter lip. I'm gonna try using these on Wiper this weekend and I'm stocking up for the 2021 Salmon run next year. Thank goodness my rod warranty replaced the broken rod. Never a problem with the lure hooks or lip ring. Had to use 30 pound braid to manage the 2020 fish and first time in my life straightened a swivel on one fish and broke my rod on another. Hooks were awesome and none bent with the giant king salmon. ![]() Had to use 30 pound braid to manage the 2020 fish an…īack again with same success this year as I had last year.
